Carbon Offsets
A "carbon offset" occurs when an individual or organisation emits a given amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) but invests in measures that will pull the equivalent volume of GHG out of the atmosphere or prevent other emissions from taking place at all.
FlyGreen.ca has partnered with
Offsetters, Canada's premier provider of high quality carbon offsets. Offsetters is a team of climate-change experts at the University of British Columbia.
Offsetters works with individuals and businesses to calculate, track, reduce, and finally offset their greenhouse gas emissions.
Offsetters funds are invested in renewable energy and energy-efficiency projects that would not have taken place without its involvement. These projects, located in Canada and around the world, include:
- Ground-source heat pump systems
- High efficiency biomass from waste-streams
- Energy efficiency systems
- Wind farm projects
Every project is verified by a quality third party as generating emissions
reductions that are real, permanent, and additional.

Offsetters' primary goal is to promote the mainstream adoption of low greenhouse gas intensity energy systems, recognizing that such systems often face market and financial barriers in the early adoption stage. Through providing technical support, marketing connections and financial contributions, Offsetters has been successful in initiating or expanding a range of projects with strong climate and social benefit.
